I just bought a gun

I just had to say it. I don't like it.
I am going to learn to like it.
Everybody in my family all have plenty of them, but me.
I have to go to practice and my husband is going to teach
me how to hold it, aim, etc.

I hope I get used to this.
I used to be afraid of that taser that I carry,
but got used to it. Not going to carry the gun,
but I still have to get used to it.

I am the one that taught him all about SHTF stuff
and PM and preps so now he's going to teach me
shooting stuff. He taught me self defense when I was
very young and still tests me on that stuff decades later !!

Any other women learning to shoot ?

It's not just women learning to shoot. There are plenty of men out there who were never in the military, never hunted, never felt the need to have a gun. I, for one, bought a revolver just this summer. My lifetime carry permit, which cost me $125, arrived in the mail a couple of days ago. I took a three-class firearms course at the local gun range. Now I have protection for my home.

Glad to hear that you are armed. Do indeed get training /practice. It is quite likely that you will learn to ENJOY your new toy. shooting and or collecting can even become a hobby.
Please wear EYE and EAR protection while practicing.
It has been said that a spouse is a great partner and can be a best friend, but they make a terrible instructor. Dont take this wrong, but you MAY want to consider learning from another person, ie cousin uncle, trusted neighbor or friend, or even a real class. maybe call " friends of NRA" they have ladies classes in many areas, a VERY patient person will give you a lot of one on one training, and safety tips also.
Enjoy the new part of your life as a gun owner.

Not too long ago Jaima got her first couple guns.

What did you get? Have you shot it yet?

Becareful!!! Doesn't happen often, but sometimes they blow up, and can take several fingers or even a hand. Hold the gun lightly as it will less the explosive damage to your hand, and do not ever hold it with both hands.

This is terrible advise - where did you get such ideas?

What in god's name are you talking about Mrs. Brady?!

Edit to add: Congrats to OP on joining the armed citizens of the nation. After you get used to the idea, you should sleep better at nights, and enjoy it as a 'sport' as well. (or at least a hobby)

WTF have you been shooting mister ? Who blows up? Gun? I have never seen factory ammo blow up a gun.

To original poster,
Congrats on your new gun. It's a best self defense tool and a great equalizer.

Re: I just bought a gun

OP,

You have a human right to protect yourself. If you are married and have children, IMO you have an obligation to protect them, and yourself. Who will care for them if something happens to you? Who will love them the same way you do? THEY NEED YOU, AND THAT MEANS THEY NEED YOU TO BE HERE WITH THEM.

Deadly force is a last resort, and it is not often required. Learn when it is, and be emotionally prepared to apply it under those circumstances. Chances are you won't need to, but that doesn't make it OK to not be ready. Vigilance isn't paranoia.

And the other posters are right! You can't start a gun thread without pictures, or at least telling us what you got!

P.S. Silvercollector is being a giant sized a$$hole, and I have no idea why unless he is an anti-gunner. Pay no attention. I've fired possibly a hundred thousand rounds in my lifetime without mishap of any kind.

There is wisdom in this post. A spouse is a terrible instructor! And do please wear EAR and eye protection!
I like to teach new shooters with reactive targets (Cans are good) They jump when hit, It's exciting.

Hey it happens. I'm missing several fingers from my right hand. Guns are dangerous. Don't believe me, then you take your chances.

This thread proves SilverCollector is nothing more than a troll. He bashes silver, APMEX, and now is trying to teach people how to misuse a gun???

No wonder you are missing a couple fingers, if you knew how to properly use a gun this might not have happen.

GESSHs
I have shot some very custom loads in a 357, the bullet actualy had to be trimmed to allow the chamber to close, and nothing bad came of it, I have shot old worn out WW1 webly that was machined to accept spring clips and 45 auto shells, this was so worn out that it shaved led when you fired it.
The only thing that has gone wrong was one time I had a 357 magnum reload that did not fire correct and the slug stayed in the end of the barrel, I did not even think to check, just shrugged my shoulders and fired off another shot, the revolver felt funny when it fired I went to take aim again and the end of the barrel was all deformed and cracked. I did not get hurt and the barrel did not explode like a grenade, they are made of softer steel and tend to bulge and tear but stay intact.
I took a saw and trimmed back the barrel and a friend wanted it so we did a little trading, he used it as it was, he got real good at hitting a target without sites on it, I bet he still has it tucked away some place.

don't worry about it blowing up your hand
